Just a long the coast from Botallack, past the Geevor mine that I also visited – and which is worth a much longer stay than I was able to give it, is the Levant Mine – the site of one of the most serious mining disasters in Cornwall when the man-engine collapsed in 1919 with many miners on it, killing 31 and injuring many more.
