That was the challenge set to the u3a afternoon Photography Group. I wasn’t sure I was going to meet the deadline to submit some shots, but did manage a trip down The Bay – just-in-time.
The featured image (above) has nothing to do with foregrounds, but everything to do with clever perspective and creativity. There’s only one spot by the Barrage’s lock gates where you can get this shot, and on a lovely sunny day it would be criminal not to have captured it.
So to foreground interest …
Quite a nice front-to-back composition with the stays leading into the boats and the St David’s Hotel in the background.
Taking the topic to the extreme maybe, but the trick here was applying a bit of knowledge of hyperfocal distance to get Flat Holm and Steep Holm nearly in focus too.
Finally a rather quirky shot to meet “the brief” … 3 – 2 – 1 … the numbering of the lock gates.
